Gary Brackett is a former American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Rutgers. Brackett was born on May 23, 1980 in Glassboro, New Jersey. He attended Glassboro High School, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. He was a two-time All-South Jersey selection in football and was named the South Jersey Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Brackett attended Rutgers University, where he played for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team from 1999 to 2002. He was a three-time All-Big East selection and was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2002. Brackett was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played for the Colts from 2003 to 2011. During his time with the Colts, he was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the All-Pro team in 2007. He was also a member of the Colts team that won Super Bowl XLI. Brackett retired from the NFL in 2012. He started for the Colts in their Super Bowl XLI win over the Chicago Bears. In 2007 Brackett recorded 116 tackles and four interceptions. He recorded 99 tackles in both 2008 and 2009. In Week 12, Brackett made three solo tackles and made his first career sack as the Colts defeated the Buffalo Bills 17-14. He sacked Bills' quarterback Drew Bledsoe for a nine-yard loss during the second quarter.
