Sgt. Nicole Gee, a member of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s female engagement team, provided a critical skill set during the United States’ tumultuous final withdrawal from Afghanistan.

She was in Afghanistan to communicate with Afghan mothers and children and to facilitate their support.

Before 13 American servicemen, including Gee, were killed by an ISIS-K suicide bomber, the Roseville, California native was immortalized in images at Hamid Karzai International Airport as a representative of the best in the American spirit.

“I adore my job,” Gee said on Instagram on Aug. 20 in a photo of her cuddling an infant in Kabul.

Other photos show Gee, who was recently promoted to sergeant for his outstanding service, guiding immigrants to waiting C-17s.

According to multiple Instagram posts, Gee, a maintenance technician by trade, was assisting in the hunt for female migrants at the time of the attack.

Rowdy Woods, an infantry Marine who served with Gee at HKIA, commented on Facebook, “Nicole was out in front with all of us [infantry Marines] unflinching in the face of the unknown.”

“She constantly tried to put a smile on everyone’s face and had a good outlook.”

Nicole L. Gee family: Husband, Parents, Children, Siblings

Jiennah, his wife, remarked on Facebook, “He would have been the best father.” Nothing will make the pain of losing my dearest buddy go away.

I wish I could have witnessed its impact on the world. “I am ecstatic to have him as my husband.” Another young man in his twenties, Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui, was also killed.

“No mother, no father should have to know that her son has gone,” Shana said on Instagram, posting the most recent snapshot her son had sent her.

“I’ll never be able to embrace him again, and my heart has been torn out of my chest.”

I’ll never touch, see, or hear my son’s grin or laugh again. He was only 20 years old at the time.

He’ll never get married or start a family.”
